Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of vitrectomy for removing posterior segment intraocular foreign bodies. Methods A retrospective research was done on 32 cases underwent vitrectomy for removing posterior segment intraocular foreign bodies from May,2002 to August,2004. Results All the foreign bodies were removed successfully.Cases with cataract were excised from posterior segment.Cases with retinal detachment were reattached.Cases with endophthalmitis were cured.12 cases had improved postoperative visual acuity, visual acuity remained unchange in 10 cases and declined in 10 cases. Conclusion Vitrectomy could remove posterior segment intraocular foreign bodies effectively and manage complications caused by intraocular foreign bodies.
