Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between Bmi-1 and Notch1 protein expressions in the occurrence and development of breast carcinoma, and their relationship with the clinical indicators of breast cancers were analyzed. Methods The protein levels of Bmi-1 and Notch1 were examined in 68 invasive ductal carcinoma cases,32 breast fibroadenoma cases, and 30 normal breast tissue cases by using immunohistochemistry( IHC). Results Both Bmi-1 and Notch1 protein expressions were significantly higher in breast invasive ductal carcinoma than those in normal breast tissue and breast fibroadenoma( P 0. 05). The high expressions of Bmi-1,Notch1 protein in invasive ductal carcinoma correlate significantly with lymph node metastasis, pathological grades and TNM stages( P 0. 05). Moreover, there was a positive correlation between Bmi-1 and Notch1 expression in breast carcinoma( r = 0. 583,P 0. 05). Conclusion High Bmi-1 and Notch1 protein expressions could be considered to be associated with evolution and malignant transformation of the breast tumor. And Notch1 signal pathway may play a role in the transcriptive activation of Bmi-1 gene in breast carcinoma, which maybe has an effect on progression of breast carcinoma.
