Abstract
Purpose To explore the role of PTEN in carcinogenesis process of the cervical cancer. Methods The expression of PTEN in 32 cases with normal epithelium,158 cases with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN)and 64 cases with cervical carcinomas was detected by immunohistochemical S-P technique with anti-PTEN antibody. Results The positive rate of PTEN expression in 32 cases with normal cervical epithelium,56 cases with CINⅠ,102 cases with CINⅡ and Ⅲ,and 64 cases with cervical carcinoma was 93.8%,75.0%,58.8% and 40.6%,respectively.PTEN expression reduced progressively in carcinogenesis process from normal cervical epithelium to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia to cervical carcinoma. Conclusion Reduced expression of PTEN is an early event in cervical carcinogenesis, and maybe the signal of cervical malignant change. The detection of PTEN expression is helpful for understanding the biological behavior of cervical carcinogenesis.
