Expression of osteopontin in ovarian cancer

Abstract

objective To investigate the expression and significance of osteopontin(OPN) in ovarian cancer.Methods Expressions of OPN were detected by immunohistochemistry method in 40 patients with ovarian cancer,20 patients with ovarian benign tumor and 10 cases of normal ovarian tissues.Correlation between the expressions and clinicopathological features was analyzed.Results The expression of OPN was higher in ovarian cancer(80.0%) than that in ovarian benign tumor(10.0%) and normal ovarian tissues(10.0%,P0.01).The expression of OPN in serous cystadenocarcinoma and in mucinous cystadenocarcinoma was 82.6% and 76.5% respectively,there was no significantdifference between the two groups.(P0.05).The expression of OPN decreased significantly in stageⅠof ovarian cancer,compared with that in stageⅡ and stageⅢ.Conclusion The expression of OPN in the tissue of ovarian cancer is increased significantly, and which is closely related to the stage and grading of these malignant tumors.
