Abstract

To study the mortality and the distribution of esophageal cancer from 1984~2002 in Henan province.Using the data of registry on all death cause of residents in 1/10 population in Henan, the esophageal cancer mortality was statistical analyzed. The crude mortality of esophageal cancer was 31.71/105 and the age-standarized mortality adjusted by Chinese standard population (1982) was 23.51/105 in Henan in 1984~2002. It accounted for 28.65% and ranked the first in all malignance death cause. The mortality declined about 50% from 35.91/105 in 1984 to 15.50/105 in 2002. There was significantly different between the urban area and the countryside.[Conclusion]Mortality of esophageal cancer in Henan province was higher in China and was declining in the past 2 decades.
