Abstract

Objective: To develop a Career Barriers Inventory for Chinese college students.Methods: Based on literatures review,Taiwan scholar Tian Xiulan’s research,and interview with college students,86 original items were developed.830 college students from Hubei and Sichuan provinces were administrated the inventory.Item analysis,exploratory factor analysis,confirmatory analysis and correlation analysis were conducted.Results: Final scale consisting of 52 items was divided into 8 factors.Confirmatory factor analysis had a good fit with the EFA results.Reliability coefficients for the 8 subscales were from 0.72 to 0.87.The inter-correlations among the 8 subscales ranged from 0.31 to 0.60.There was significant gender difference in sex prejudice,family responsibility and support from others.No significant difference was found in total scores.Conclusion: The Career Barriers Inventory for Chinese College Students has good psychometric indexes and can be used in Chinese study.
