Abstract

Objective: To develop a Parental Career Expectations Scale for College Students in Chinese context. Methods: The 87 original items were developed based on the results of open-ended questionnaire for college students and experts' evaluation.Item analysis, exploratory factor analysis(EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) were conducted to finalize the constructs of the scale. Results: The final Parental Career Expectations Scale for College Students consisted of 30 items, which were divided into four subscales.Confirmatory factor analysis yielded a good fit.Reliability coefficients for the 4 subscales ranged from 0.85 to 0.90,and for the total scale 0.93.Conclusion: The Parental Career Expectations Scale for College Students is found to have good psychometric properties and can thus be used for future studies.
