Abstract

Objective To analyze the distribution of the atherosclerosis plaque in carotid artery and the association with diseases using the data of characteristics of carotid artery in the elderly by color Doppler echocardiography. Methods Collecting the color Doppler echocardiography results of the carotid in 383 elderly cases more than 50 years old and analyzing the distribution of the atherosclerosis plaque in the common carotid artery, bifurcation in carotid artery, internal carotid artery, external carotid artery and in relation to clinical diseases. Results The prevalence of atherosclerosis plaque in the bifurcation of carotid artery was location, which increased with the age of the patients. The prevalence of atherosclerosis plaque in the patients who suffered from hypertension or hyperlipidemia were higher than that in patients without hyperteusion and hyperlipidemia. Conclusion Elderly age, hypertension and hyperlipidemia are risk factors for carotid atherosclerosis.
