Abstract
Based on the data of Shanxi Statistical Yearbook in 2002,this paper calculated and analyzed the ecological footprints and ecological carrying capacity of Shanxi Province in 2001.The results showed that the ecological footprint of Shanxi Province is 2.491 941 hm2 per capita;the utilizable ecological carrying capacity is 0.810 258 hm2 per capita after deducted by biodiversity conservation area and ecological deficit comes up to 1.681 683 hm2 per capita.Through the analysis of ecological footprint per 10,000 yuan GDP,the study indicated the utilization efficiency of biological resources is very low.Ecological footprint's diversity index and the development capacity indicated that development capacity level of Shanxi Province is lower than national average level.
