Abstract
Objective To investigate the risk factors of hypertension among rural population of Wengan County,Guizhou Province. Methods Totally 1,468 rural residents aged 25 and over in 5 villages were randomly cluster sampled and investigated by questionnaire and medical examination.Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analyses were conducted with SAS software. Results The total standardized prevalence rate of hypertension was 21.25%.Univariate Logistic regression analysis indicated that the prevalence of hypertension correlated with age, education level, drinking, body mass index(BMI),waist to hip ratio(WHR),and family history. The result of multivariate Logistic regression analysis indicated that dangerous factors were sex, age,BMI,WHR,drinking, and family history of hypertension.Only 5% of the residents knew the diagnosis standard of hypertension. Conclusions The morbidity of hypertension is higher among the residents of Wengan County.Propaganda and education of the knowledge about prevention and control of hypertension should be strengthened in rural area as well as prevention of diet and behavior risk factors.
