Abstract
Objective To evaluate the value of enhanced and delayed CT scans in the diagnosis of renal trauma. Methods Plain spiral CT, enhanced CT, and delayed enhanced CT scans were performed in 9 cases of renal injuries. Results Plain spiral CT clearly displayed the marginal irregularity of the kidney in 5 cases, subcapsular hematoma in 3 cases, and perinephric hemorrhage in 2 cases. Enhanced and delayed CT scan not only showed what have been presented in the plain CT scans but also demonstrated 1 case of renal false aneurysm caused by trauma, 2 cases of external fistula of urine due to injury of collecting system, 1 case of penetrating trauma of the renal cortex, 1 case of gaping wound of the renal cortex, and 1 cases of intraperitoneal fluid owing to disruption of hydrocalycosis. Conclusion Enhanced and delayed CT scan is of important value in the diagnosis of renal trauma, especially in those with injuries in collecting systems.
