A Review of Liuxie’s Biansao

Abstract

The academic foundation of Liuxie’s Biansao is the research on The Songs of Chu in the Han Dynasty. Scholars of that time had much appraisal to Quyuan and The Songs of Chu ,and took Confucian classics as the criterion. This may be too biased. Liuxie got away from the study of Confucian classics,and assessed The Songs of Chu with a view to literature. Biansao which enumerates eleven works in The Songs of Chu is of great value for ascertaining and justifying Chucizhangju.
