Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical value of serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in the treatment of patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Methods Blood samples from venous were collected in 75 patients with AECOPD on the second day after admission and 10 d after treatment. Hs-CRP level was measured and compared combining with condition changes. Results After 10 d treatment, clinical control was achieved in 24 cases,36 were effectively treated, and 15 ineffective. During the treatment, the hs-CRP level in the ineffective group (28.59±13.80) mg/L was higher than the control group (11.44±6.47) mg/L and the effective group (21.66 ±8.09) mg/L. The differences were considered significant (all P 0.05). Meanwhile,in the effective group, the hs-CRP level was also higher than the control group (P 0.01). Conclusions Hs-CRP level is correlated with condition changes in patients with AECOPD during the treatment. Dynamic observation on hs-CRP may be helpful to estimate the changes and efficacy of AECOPD.
