Abstract
Objective:To explore the cause and operative results of surgical treatment for spontaneous pneumothorax. Method: The clinical data of 318 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax that underwent surgical treatment were analyzed. The results of different surgical methods were compared. Result: All patients recovered and the rate of complication and recurrence was low. The cases underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) had the shortest post-operative drainage time and hospital stay compared with those underwent classic thoracotomy and subaxillary mini thoracotomy. Bullae were the principal cause of spontaneous pneumothorax in the group. Conclusion: Operative method is safe and effective in the treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax. VATS is minimally invasive and is the first preference upon other methods.
