Abstract
The reform and opening-up and social transformation in China brought about integrations between traditional culture and modern culture as well as foreign culture and local culture and gave birth to differently and variously cultural patterns, which fall into three main categories: mainstream culture, elite culture and mass culture.A positive interaction among these three cultures is a prerequisite for the harmonious development of society. However, they are suffering from the great tension in the context of globalization. At the same time, the elite culture and mass culture are deeply influenced by consumerism, which resulted in commercialization of elite culture and in distortions of people's values. This problem should be addressed urgently in promoting development and prosperity of socialist culture.
