Abstract
Twenty SD female rats were randomly divided into two groups,control group and model group.In model group(n = 12),the rats were fed with high-fat and high-sugar pellet,and in control group(n = 8),the rats were fed with commercial standard pellet.Four weeks after feeding,intraperitoneal injection of low dosage of streptozotocin(STZ,35 mg/kg) was conducted to rats in both groups in order to build type 2 diabetic rat models.The results indicated that in comparison with control,the serum insulin levels and the fasting blood glucose(FBG) in model group all increased significantly(P0.01),the β-cell number decreased and the cytoplasm became light.The method that inducing type 2 diabetic rat by combining high-fat and high-sugar feeding with intraperitoneal injection of STZ with 35 mg/kg is effective,and the models built by the method are stable for a long period of time and with high success rate.Therefore,the models built by the method are the ideal animal model for studying human type 2 diabetes mellitus and its drug.
