Clinical study on parotid pleomorphic adenoma treated with partial parotidectomy

Objective To evaluate the value of clinical application of partial parotidectomy for pleomorphic adenoma in superifical parotid lobe.Methods A total number of 62 patients with superifical parotid plemorphic adenoma treated in our department between 2005 and 2010 were reptrospectively reviewed.28 were treated with partial parotidectomy,while 34 were treated with superficial parotidectomy.All patients were followed up for 2-7 years(mean 3.8 years).The incidence of complications and prognosis of these two treatment options were compared.Results Surgical complications(temporary facial paralysis,Frey′s syndrome,facial contour deformity,earlobe mumbness) were significantly lower in group with partial parotidectomy than group with superficial parotidectomy(P0.01).Operation time and sizes of the incision in group with partial parotidectomy were shorter(P0.01).Conclusions Partial parotidectomy causes fewer complications and can be recommended as the choice for treatment of parotid pleomorphic adenoma.
