Abstract
Objective To detect the expression of fragile histidinIe triad(FHIT) gene protein, and the relationship between FHIT protein expression and clincopathlogical indices in colorectal carcinoma. Methods Thirty human colorecta carcinoma specimens and adjacent normal colorectal mucosa tissues were determined by mole pathologic methods. The expression of FHIT gene was detected by Western blot method. Results 56.7% of colorectal carcinomas showed reduced or absent expression of the FHIT protein. The amount of FHIT protein was not associated with age, gender, tumor site, tumor size, and histological type(P0.05),but was correlated with tumor differentiation degree, invasive depth,Dukes stage and lymph node metastasis(P0.05).The tumor tissue of deeper invade depth, lower differeniation degree, later Dukes stage and with lymph node metastasis showed more reduction of FHIT protein expression. Conclusion The reduced expression of FHIT may be associated with decreasing differentiation, metastasis in colorectal carcinoma. It is suggested that decreased FHIT expressin plays an important role in the development and progression of the tumor.
