Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of fragile histidine triad (FHIT) protein and its correlation with clinicopathological features of human sporadic colorectal carcinoma (SCC). METHODS: Immunohistochemistry SP method was used to determine the expression of FHIT protein in surgically resected specimens of 84 human SCC. RESULTS: The positive rate of FHIT protein expression was 48.81% in human SCC. No correlation was found of loss or reduced expression of FHIT protein with tumors clinicopathological features such as age, gender, tumous site and histological type,P0.05, but the correlation was found of loss or reduced expression of HIT protein with tumors invade depth, degree of the differentiation, Duck's stage and metastasis, P0.05. Tumous with deeper invade depth, lower differentiation degree, later Duck's stage and lymph node metastasis were significantly more likely to be reduction for FHIT protein the expression.CONCLUSION: Absent or reduction of FHIT protein expression possiably takes part in development and progression of human SCC.
