Treatment of 41 Patients with Fungal Rhinosinusitis by Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Objective To investigate the effect of endoscopic sinus surgery(ESS) for treating fungal rhinosinusitis.Methods The data of 41 patients treated with fungal rhinosinusitis were analysed retrospectivly.Material postoperative removed of all patients were pathologically confirmed as fungal clumps.Results In the postoperative follow-up from 4 months to one year,all symptoms were disappearance in 37 patients and symptoms were remission in 4 patients.By puncturing maxillary sinus and washing nasal,the symptoms were disappearance.Sinus mucosa and sinus ostium were smooth and enough channel for aeration and drainage.All of patients had no complications.Conclusion Endoscopic sinus surgical trauma is tiny and visual fields clear,especially in dealing with the ethmoid sinus and sphenoid sinus disease.It can thoroughly clear the morbid change and retain the normal mucous membrane of nasal cavity and paranasal sinus.Fungal disease of the maxillary sinus is used endoscopic sinus or combined with Caldwell-Luc surgery.The ESS is effective in the treatment of fungal rhinosinusitis and has an unparalleled advantage.
