Abstract
Aim: To investigate the relationship between polymorphism of candidate gene and essential hypertension (EH), the frequency of N2 allele of insulin receptor (INSR) gene was determined in 86 normotensives and 120 hypertensives. Methods: Blood pressure (BP), body mass index (BMI), fasting serum glucose (Glu), serum total cholesterol (TCH) and triglyceride (TG) were measured in all subjects; Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes by standard method. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) combined with restriction enzyme digestion was used to detect the polymorphism. Result: The systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP)of hypertensive group were significantly higher than those of control while other clinic features such as fasting blood glucose 、body mass index and serum lipid level showed no difference between two groups; N2 allele frequency of INSR gene of EH group was higher than that of control (0.254 vs 0.169, P 0.05). Conclusion: Nsi I polymorphism of INSR gene was associated with EH in Chinese population. N2 allele of INSR gene may be one of the genes in correlation with Chinese hypertensive patients
