Abstract
The diameter of the penstock of hydropower station is an important design parameter. According to the new China norms of Alternatives Selection In Accordance With the Dynamic Economic Comparison Method, this paper derives the universal economic diameter calculation formula of the penstock of hydropower station. The simplified formula were used to calculate the economic diameters of the buried pipes in dam in 36 completed hydropower stations in China. The calculation results showed that it is good adaptability and its laws and conclusions can be used in the preliminary design of hydropower station for reference.
