Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of Erdong Decoction and Zhufeng Tongbi Decoction combined with Western Medicine on treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods: 120 patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy were randomized to 2 groups.Besides diabetes education, diet modification, physical activity, and glucose-lowering drugs such as insulin or oral glucose-lowering drugs,60 cases in the controlled group received western drugs including: venous injection of Alprostadil 10μg dissolved in 20mL normal saline, once a day;oral Epalrestat at a dose of 50mg,3 times a day.Another 60 patients assigned to the treatment group were given Erdong Decoction and Zhufeng Tongbi Decoction with one dose daily for each in addition to the same therapies as that of controlled group. The treatment duration was 4 weeks for both groups. Results: In the 60 patients of treatment group,21 cases showed significant efficacy,35 cases showed efficiency, and 4 cases failed to demonstrate any effects. The total effective rate reached 93.33%.While there were 14 significant efficacy cases,34 efficiency cases and 12 failure cases in the controlled group, and the total effective rate was 80%.There were significant differences between the 2 groups(P0.05).Conclusions: Erdong Decoction and Zhufeng Tongbi Decoction combined with Western Medicine are evidently effective on treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy, deserving further study.
