Abstract
Serious problems such as low water use efficiency and high water loss have been existing in the agricultural production in China for a long time. The water resources status and agricultural production situation have been analyzed for Qingwangchuan irrigation region, Gansu province. The actual conditions in the region suggest that measures including reservoir construction, field irrigation techniques, modern facilities and water-saving agronomy etc. should be adopted in the transition from traditional extensive irrigation agriculture to modern irrigation agriculture with high efficiency. These lead to the optimal disposition between the general benefit and the water use efficiency in the irrigation region, help to realize the sustainable development of agriculture and let agriculture step into the road of saving resources, high efficiency and high yield.
