Comparison of the Effect of Vitapex Paste and Formocresol Joint Lodoform on Apical Periodontitis with Fistula

Abstract

Objective:To compare the effect of Vitapex paste and formocresol joint iodoform in root canal disinfection for apical periodontitis with fistula.Methods:A total of 158 teeth with apical periodontitis with fistula were randomly divided into Vitapex paste group as the study group and the formo cresol joint iodoform group as the control group.The therapeutic effect and incidence rate of endodontic inter appointment pain(EIP)between them were compared as root canal disinfection medicaments.Results:The effective ratio of the study group and the control group were 97.47% and 86.08%,respectively.The incidence of EIP of Vitapex paste group and control group were 6.33% and 16.45%,respectively.The difference between them was statistically significant(P0.05).Conclusions:This study showed that Vitapex paste can prevent the infection and incidence of EIP in the root canal of apical periodontitis with fistula efficiently better than formocresol joint iodoform,and is worth popularizing.
