RESULTS OF THE ZOOLOGICO-BOTANICAL EXPEDITION TO SOUTHWEST CHINA 1955--1957 (HEMIPTERA: PYRRHOCORIDAE AND LARGIDAE)

The present paper deals with the red bugs of Pyrrhocoridae and Largidae collectedin the Zoologico-Botanical Expedition from various parts of Yunnan in 1955-1957. Thecollection cantains 24 species belonging to 13 genera. Among them one genus and fourspecies are described as new and four genera and eight species are recorded for the firsttime in China (new records are marked with a *). All the holotypes and allotypes aredeposited in the insect collection of Academia Sinica. The new genus and species arediagnosed as follows: Euscopus fuscus, n. sp. (fig. 1) . Length 7.7mm, width 3.0mm, blackish brown; head and thorax beneath black;lateral margins of pronotum and costal margins red; posterior margin of pronotum andbasal half of 4th antennal segment sordid yellow. Abdomen beneath with middle por-tion and lateral margins reddish, and four submarginal round spots pitchy black. Legsfuscus. Posterior margin of genital segment broadly deeply notched at middle. Holotype: , and paratype: , Yunnan, 1955 Ⅴ11. Distinguished from E. stigmaticus Bredd. and E. distinguendus Blote by the absenceof white spot at apical margin of corium and from E. indecorus Walk. and E. parvicepsBredd. by the differently constructed genital segment. ASCOPUS n. gen. Allied to Euscopus Stal but head almost horizontal, strongly anteriorly produced,clypeus prominent; eyes rather small, nearly contact with anterior margin of pronotum;antennae short, shortly longer than half of body length, 1st segment shorter than 2nd,clubformed; bucculae high, anteriorly rounded, rostrum reaching apex of posterior coxae,lateral portion of pronotum and basal part of costal margin expanded and recurvedupwardly. Type species: Ascopus rufus, n. sp. Ascopus rufus, n. sp. (fig. 2) . Length 7.3mm, width 2.8mm, fuscus red; anterior portion of head, lateralmargins of pronotum and basal half of costal margin, lateral margins of body beneath,1st antennal segment, rostrum and legs all red; 2nd, 3rd and 4th antennal segmentsblack. Head above finely granulate; apex and posterior half of pronotum, scutellum andhemelyptera punctate. Length of antennal segments 1.0:1.15:0.7: 1.1mm; length ofrostral segments 1.0:1.1:0.7:0.5mm. Posterior margin of genital segment pointedly pro- duced at middle (fig. 2a). Holotype: , Yunnan, 1955 V 9; paratype: , Yunnan, 1955 V 17. Armatillus verticalis, n. sp. (fig. 3) Allied to A. verrucosus Dist. but head vertical (fig. 3a b), vertex posteriorly mar-ginate, membrane without a basal cell, corium with only one indistinct pale apical spot.Body length 4.4mm, width 2.7mm brownish black with short yellow hairs. Head seenfrom above length 0.6mm width 1.6mm width of vertex 1.0mm; seen from front length1.1mm; eyes small, contact with anterior margin of pronotum. Length of antennal seg-ments 0.8:0.5:0.35:0.6mm. Rostrum reaching apex of intermediate coxae. Holotype: , Yunnan, 1957 Ⅲ 8. Pyrrhopeplus impictus, n. sp. (fig. 4) . Length 10.6mm, width 4.2mm; . length 11.4mm, width 4.7mm. Verysimilar to P. posthumus Horv. but apex of pronotum concolorous, corium without blackspot, membrane with a black spot at basal inner angle, abdominal sternites concolorous,and with 4 sublateral black round spots on each side.
