Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2) and survivin proteins in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC),and to analyze the relationship between the expressions and clinicopathologic factors.MethodsThe expression of MMP-2 and survivin protein was detected with immunohistochemical ElivisionTM plus non-biotin technique in 58 cases of ESCCs and 30 cases of normal tissues around tumour.ResultsThe positive expression rates of MMP-2 protein and survivin protein in ESCC were significantly higher than those in normal epithelium(P0.01),respectively.MMP-2 protein expression was markedly correlated with tumor infiltration depth,lymph node metastasis and tumor differentiation degree(P0.01).Survivin protein expression was also positively correlated with tumor infiltration depth and lymph node metastasis(P0.01),but it was incorrelated with tumor differentiation degree(P0.05).MMP-2 protein expression was positively correlated with survivin(P0.01).ConclusionMMP-2 and Survivin may play important roles in the carcinogenesis and development of ESCC.Combinative detecting the expression of MMP-2 and Survivin may provide more accurate information in early diagnosis and predicting the prognosis of ESCC.
