Abstract

Objective To study the expression of β-catenin (β-cat) and nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) in gastric carcinoma and precancerous change and their relation to clinical pathological features of gastric caricinoma. Methods Immunochemical method was performed to detect the expression of β-cat and NF-κB p65 in 72 cases of gastric carcinoma tissue and 12 cases of nomal gastric tissue. Results Expression of β-cat and NF-κB p65 in gastric carcinoma tissue were more significantly detectable than those in nomal gastric tissue (P0.05). 65.3% and 61.1% tumor tissues were positive for β-cat and NF-κB. β-cat was closely related to pathological differentiation, pathological stages, lymph node metastasis and the deepness of invasion (P0.05). NF-κB p65 was closely related to tumor size, pathological stages, lymph node metastasis and the deepness of invasion (P0.05).Conclusions The expression of NF-κB correlates with that of β-cat in gastric carcinoma, suggesting both might be related to the occurrence and development of gastric carcinorma. It indicates that β-cat and NF-κB could serve as markers in evaluating prognosis of gastric carcinoma and provide targets for chemopreventive strategies.
