The Translation of Foreign Poems into Chinese and Chinese Modern Classical Poetry

The translation of foreign poems plays a great role in formation and development of Chinese modern poetry,but its side effect is that original metres are overlooked,which leads to mis under standing that foreign poems are all free verses.However,some poem translators have kept original metre in poetry translation since 1980s which is termed by BIAN Zhilin as the maturity of poetry translation.The combination of reservation of original metric forms of foreign poems and theories and composition of Chinese modern metric poems helps to establish and promote Chinese modern metric poems in a healthy manner.
