On the Understanding of Images in Poetry Translation

Abstract

According to the standards of poetry translation by XU Yuan-chong,this paper makes appreciative remarks on a famous Chinese poem A Tranquil Night and its English translation,and on an English poem Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening and its Chinese translation.This paper also comparatively analyzes the similarities and differences between Chinese poems and English poems,in order to understand the images of poems and the intention of the poets so that we can better enjoy the poems.
