The Transformation of the Relation of Chinese Clans and Rural Governance in China Since Qing Dynasty——A Study Based on the Dai Clan in Dating(大庭) County of Nanan in Fujian

Abstract

The functional transformation of the Dai clan in Dating(大庭) Country in Nanan(南安) reflects the relation of the clans in Southern Fujian and rural governance.In Early Qing dynasty,the power of clan was strong and the country was governed by squire or clan elder.In late Qing Dynasty,the clan elder still governed the country,while the richer overseas in the clan became an assistant strength.When it entered the period of Republic of China,the overseas clansmen with tremendous economic strengths had a great influence on the country affairs,for which some of them even came back hometown.In the period of reform and opening up in PRC,the overseas clansmen with their economic strengths attend the country building and help restore the clan activities and are the real attendants of the building of the beautiful country.The transformation reflects the fluctuation of the strength of the state power in controlling country.
