Abstract

A chromogenic reagent 1-azobenzene-3-(5-cyano-2-pyridyl)-triazene(ABCPDT) was synthesized and its color reaction with nickel has been investigated. In the presence of the surface active agent TX-100 and in the Na2B4O7-NaOH medium of pH 11.0,ABCPDT forms a red complex with Ni(Ⅱ).The apparent molar absorbtivity of the complex is 1.67×105 L·mol-1·cm-1 at 535 nm(λmax). The molar ratio of Ni(Ⅱ) to ABCPDT is 1∶3.Beer′s law is well obeyed in the range of 0~480 μg/L for nickel. The method has been applied to the direct determination of nickel in alloy samples with satisfactory results.
