Association of interleukin-6 gene -572C/G single nucleotide polymorphism with coronary artery disease in Han population of north China.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between the Interleukin-6(IL-6) gene promoter region-572C / G single nu-cleotide polymorphism and coronary artery disease in Han population of North China.Methods: Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP) method was used to detect the IL-6 genotype in 434 cases of coronary artery disease(CAD) patients and 417 non-coronary artery disease(control group) and the relationship between-572C/G single nucleotide polymorphism and coronary heart disease was discussed.Results: IL-6 gene-572C / G polymorphism of the CC,CG and GG genotypes in the CAD group was 59.68%,37.09%,3.23%,while C and G allele frequencies were 78.23%,21.77%,respectively.Genotype in healthy adults who were 67.87%,30.22%,1.92%,C and G allele frequencies were 82.97%,17.03%.The distribution of IL-6 gene-572C/G polymorphism in the two groups was significant difference(p0.05);After adjustment of sex,age,body mass index,hypertension,diabetes,high cholesterol,smoking and other conventional risk factors with Logsitic regression analysis,IL-6 gene-572C / G single nucleotide polymorphism was an independent coronary artery disease risk factors(P 0.05);With the relative risk of allele frequency analysis,the risk of cornoary artery disease was markedly higher in the G allel carriers than that in the C allele carriers(OR=1.356,95%CI=1.0648~1.7279).Conclusion: IL-6 gene-572C/G single nucleotide polymorphism is correlated with the incidence of cornoary artery disease in Han population of North China and G allele is an important genetic markers with coronary heart disease.
