Abstract
Objective:To study the changes of serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) level in newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and its clinical significance. Methods: Serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) level were measured dynamically at the onset of 1, 3 and 7 days in 39 children with HIE by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: The serum level of NSE in patients is significantly higher than that of the controls (P 0.05). The level of NSE increased significantly with the increase of the clinical severity of the disease. Conclusion: The level of serum NSE can be used as a chemical indicator in early evalution of the severity of cerebral injury and prognosis.
