Value of 1.5T MRI and 3.0T MRI Imaging in Preoperative Staging of Rectal Cancer

Purpose:To investigate the accuracy of 1.5T MRI and 3.0T MRI in staging of rectal cancer,and to analysis the clinical value of both techniques.Methods:Sixty patients with primary rectal cancer,proved by biopsy,were randomly assigned into two groups.They were underwent either 1.5T MRI or 3.0T MRI.MR findings were correlated with histology.Results: The overall accuracy of 1.5T MRI in the diagnosis of T staging was 80%.The overall accuracy of 1.5T MRI in the diagnosis and N staging was 67%,and 94%,40%,56% for N0,N1,and N2 respectively. The overall accuracy of 3.0T MRI in the diagnostic of T staging was 80%.The overall accuracy of 3.0T MRI in the diagnosis and N staging was77%,and 83%,60%,100% for N0,N1,and N2 respectively.Conclusion:The accuracy of 1.5TMRI and 3.0TMRI in the diagnosis of T staging is similar.The accuracy of 3.0T MRI in the diagnosis and N1 and N2 staging are higher than 1.5T MRI.Both techniques have advantage and have high value in clinical usage.
