Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and risk factors of cerebrovascular disease. Methods All 113 patients with cerebral infarction and 111 patients with non-infarction hospitalized in the neurological department of Wuhan Fourteenth Hospital from January 2013 to December 2014 were selected as the study subjects and given color Doppler ultrasound examination. The patients were divided into the carotid atherosclerosis group and the non-carotid atherosclerosis group according to the examination results. Basic information and cerebrovascular disease related risk factors of the two groups were recorded and analyzed statistically. Results 72.32%(162/224) of patients had varying degrees of carotid atherosclerosis and the prevalence rate of plaque was 70.09%(157/224). The prevalence rate of carotid atherosclerosis of the patients with cerebral infarction was 88.50%(100/113), which was higher than the 55.86%(62/111) of the patients with non-carotid atherosclerosis. Logistic regression analysis showed that carotid atherosclerosis was related to age,TG, LDL and systolic pressure(P0.05). Conclusion Patients with cerebral infarction are more likely to have carotid atherosclerosis. Carotid atherosclerosis is related to multiple risk factors of cerebrovascular disease.
