Abstract

Objective:To study the factors of atherosclerosis and the prevalence for coronary heart disease and stroke in carotid atherosclerosis patients. Methods:Two hundred and twenty two patients were divided into carotid atherosclerosis group(n=105) and control group(n=116) according to the results of color Doppler ultrasonography. The general data of the patients in carotid atherosclerosis group and coutral group. Results:Hypertension, diabetes mellitus, abnormal blood lipid were the risk factors for carotid atherosclerosis, but the sex and age were not significantly different. The rate of heart disease and stroke for carotid atherosclerosis patients were higher than that of the control group. Conclusion:Carotid atherosclerosis is the independent risk factors for ischemic stroke;also,it is associated with coronary disease.Carotid color Doppler ultrasonography examination should be routinely performed for the people with risk factors for heart disease and stroke.
