Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of SOD as a free radical scavenger on experimental acute pancreatitis. Methods Fifty four female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups: the sham-operation group,SAP group and SOD pre-treated group.Pancreatitis was induced by intraductal administration of 5% sodium taurocholate 0.1 ml/kg.The animals in the SOD pretreated group were given SOD at a dosage of 20000U/kg body weight.Rats in the three groups were killed at 3、6、12 hours after induction of the model. We defemined serum amylase, serum MDA,serum Superoxide dismutase(SOD). Results The level of serum amyly increased significantly in the SAP group than that in the SOD pretreated group(P0.01). The level of serum SOD in the SOD pretreated group increased at the third,6th hour(P0.05).In contrast, The level of serum MDA was significantly lower than that in the SAP group at the third and 6th hour (P0.05). The scores of pancreatic pathohistology decreased in the SOD pretreated roup than that in the SAP group at the third hour (P0.05). Conclusion Superoxide dismutase (SOD) reduced tissue damage and biochemical alterations and had therapeutic effect on the development of acute pancreatitis.
