Abstract

Objective To study the effect of low molecular weight heparin(LMWH) on the death rate, concentrations of serum superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malondialdehyde(MDA) of rat with severe acute pancreatitis(SAP). Methods Wistar rats were randomized into three groups including sham-operated,SAP model and LMWH groups. The death rate was calculated, and the concentrations of serum SOD and MDA 12,24,48 and 72 h after surgery were determined. Results Death rate of LMWH group was significantly lower than that of SAP model group(P 0.01);the activity of SOD was higher and MDA expression was lower in the group of LMWH treatment than those of control group(P 0.01 and P 0.05,respectively). Conclusion LMWH can significantly reduce mortality rate, increase the activity of SOD and decrease the generation of MDA in SAP rats.
