Study of KAP related to AIDS among new generation of migrant workers in Shenzhen City

Objective To understand the knowledge,attitude and practice(KAP) related to HIV/AIDS among new generation of migrant workers in Shenzhen City,and to provide basis for implementing AIDS health education.Methods After obtaining informed consent,a self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted.251 migrant workers of new generation who met the inclusion criteria participated in the self-administered questionnaire survey to collect the information on knowledge,attitude and practice related to HIV/AIDS,and HIV/AIDS health education experiences.Results New generation of migrant workers' rate of correct answers in AIDS general knowledge was 64.44%,and the highest rate of error answer was 64.14% in Mosquito bites can transmit AIDS.Positive attitude toward HIV/AIDS was 43.63%,and correct rate of condom use was 58.03%.33.47% of them had received a special HIV/AIDS health education in the last year,which was related to age distribution and marital status.AIDS-related knowledge about which new generation of migrant workers would like to know were route of transmission(56.97%),prevention(52.99%),treatment(42.23%) and epidemiology(35.86%).Health education methods which new generation of migrant workers like were television(60.16%),books and newspapers(48.21%),promotion and exhibition(41.04%) and forum and lecture(27.89%).Conclusion New generation of migrant workers is a targeted population in HIV/AIDS health education.In the process of AIDS health education activities targeting new generation of migrant workers,we should develop promotional strategies which meet the needs of people at different levels to provide suitable HIV/AIDS-related knowledge.
