Comparison of therapeutic effects of citalopram and amitriptyline in treatment of senile depression

Abstract

Objective:To explore the efficacy and side effeets of citalopram in the treatment of senile depression. Methods:80 patients were randomly assigned to citalopram group(n=40) and amitriptyline group(n=40).The clinical efficacy was evaluated by HAMD,the side effects were evaluated by TESS.Results: The efficacy of citalopram is similar to amitripytline in the treatment of senile depression.However,citalopram had fewer side effects.Conclusions: Citalopram appears to be more effective in treatment of senile depression and has good conpliance.
