Abstract
Using Fenton's reagent as initiator, cationic starch as main chain, the styrene(St), butyl acrylate(BA), rosin, N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide(HEA) and dimethyl amino ethyl methacrylate(DM) as main raw monomers, the soap-free emulsion sizing agent based on cationic starch grafted by styrene-acrylate comonomer was prepared by free-soap emulsion polymerization, and the structure and properties of the copolymer were characterized with FT-IR, particle size analyzer, static contact angle and SEM. The results showed that the excellent performance and good sizing effects of styrene-acrylate copolymer emulsion were achieved when m(total monomers):m(starch)=2:1, m(H2 O2)=2.6%, m(St)/m(BA)=2.5, m(HEA)=0.3%, m(DM)=1.2%, the dosage of surface sizing agent was 0.4%.
