Abstract

Objective To compare the short-term efficacy of high-dose intravenous methylprednisolone with routine-dose glucocorticosteroid in the treatment of multiple sclerosis(MS).Methods In the first group of high-dose methylprednisolone,14 patients were given methylprednisolone 1 000 mg/d intravenously for three to five days followed by prednison 50~60mg/d orally, slowly tapering to the lowest maintenance. In the second group of routine-dose glucocorticosteroid,17 patients were given dx 10~15 intravenously for ten to fourteen days, followed by gradual dose decreasing. Results The first group was effective for 12 patients whinin 15 days while the second group was effective for 4 patients. As for short-term effect, the first group showed better results than the second group. Conclusion High-dose intravenous methylprednisolone pulse therapy prevails in short-term effecacy.
