Abstract

Jar test by using certain molar ratio of potassium permanganate to poly silicon iron(PSI)(that is nM∶nFe,in which M and Fe represent KMnO4 and PSI,respectively) in treating Yellow River was done, and the influence of the addition amount of potassium permanganate on coagulation efficiency and mechanism of PSI was studied. The results show that the addition of potassium permanganate has little influence on turbidity removal, while improves the removal of CODMn greatly. The optimum of nM∶nFe molar ratio for removing organic matters is from 0.047 to 0.066.After the addition of potassium permanganate, the organic combination of its oxidation with the coagulation of PSI makes the flocks large, dense and easy to drop, leading to the promotion of organic compound removal.
