Abstract
The enhanced effects of potassium permanganate composite agent on the removal of phenol in the process of coagulation was studied through pre-oxidation of the sample of phenol-containing water by potassium permanganate composite agent to enhance the conventional coagulation treatment.The results showed that when the dose of potassium permanganate composite agent was3mg/L the removal rate of phenol was more than70%higher than the removal rate resulted from simply using polymerized aluminum chloride.It was shown by the analysis of the mechanism that the enhanced coagulation effect of potassium permanganate composite agent was mainly based on the combined effects of the oxidation of potassium permanganate and the catalytic oxidation of the intermediate product,which was the freshly formed hydrated manganese dioxide.
