Abstract

The process route and reaction mechanism of transesterification between dimethyl carbonate and phenyl acetate to diphenyl carbonate(DPC) are reviewed, and the categories of catalyst are systematically overviewed including the homogeneous catalysts (tin and titanium organic compounds, etc.) and heterogeneous catalysts(MoO3,WO3 and other metal oxides). The advantages and disadvantages are analyzed when tin and titanium oxide is used as the catalyst for the synthesis of diphenyl carbonate. The immobilization of organic tin, organic titanium catalyst and heterogeneous catalyst are thought as important research trends for transesterification of dimethyl carbonate and phenyl acetate to diphenyl carbonate.
