Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of examining serum cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in patients with angina pectoris. Methods Serum cTnI, creatine kinase isoenzyme MB(CK MB)were simultaneously measured in 30 healthy subjects, 35 stable angina pectoris(SAP) and 65 unstable angina pectoris, respectively. The relationships between the changes of cTnI and the cardiac events were analysed. Results The incidence of cardiac events within 30 days were significantly higher in group with increased cTnI (≥0.1ng/ml) than that with normal cTnI (0.1ng/ml).(47.7% vs 8.8%,P0.05). For the prediction of cardiac events with cTnI, its sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy were 76.3%, 67.4%, 45.6%, 87.8%, 69.5%, respectively. Conclusion The present study suggested that serum cTnI level show better predictive value for short term cardiac events in patients with unstable angina pectoris.
