Observation on effect of epidural block anesthesia combined with general anesthesia in elderly patients undergoing upper-middle abdominal surgery

Objective To explore the clinical effect of epidural block anesthesia combined with general anesthesia in elderly patients undergoing upper-middle abdominal surgery.Methods Twenty-four patients readied for upper-middle abdominal surgery were randomly divided into two groups:the control group(using general anesthesia) and the experimental group(epidural block anesthesia combined with general anesthesia),each were 12 cases,the life indexes,dosages of anesthesia and awake time were observed.Results Before surgery,there were no statistical significant difference in blood pressure and heart rate between the two groups(P0.05).The life indexes in experimental group maintained at stable levels after its decrease,and those in the control group maintained at stable levels after its increase.Compared to the control group,the blood pressue and heart rate at every time points were lower(P0.05),dasages of anesthesia agents was less(P0.05 or 0.01),postoperative awake time was shorter(P0.01) in the experimental group.Conclusion The effect of epidural block anesthesia combined with general anesthesia in elderly patients undergoing upper-middle abdominal surgery is very satisfactory.
