Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate clinical efficacy and safety of levofloxacin and ceftriaxone in aged patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. METHODS: Sixty aged patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis were randomly divided into levofloxacin group (29 cases) and ceftriaxone group (31 cases). Patients of levofloxacin group were treated with levofloxacin, 200 mg iv drip, twice per day; patients of ceftriaxone group treated with ceftriaxone, 2g iv drip, once per day.Duration was 7 to 14 days. RESULTS: The overall efficiency and side effect rate of the two groups were 89 7%,6 9% and 87 1%,6 4% respectively, there was no statistical difference between two groups ( P 0 05). CONCLUSION: Levofloxacin and ceftriaxone have similar curative efficiency and safety in the treatment of aged patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.
