Abstract
Objective To understand the health level and the utilization and demands of health service among residents in Anzhen community in Beijing. To make effective provision for community health care service and carry out disease prevention and control pertinently, so as to provide feasible measures to resolve the major health problem in the community. Methods The investigation was conducted with three stage randomized sampling on adult people aged 25 and over in Anzhen community, using revised questionnaire from the WHO Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System. Results ① The major diseases suffered among the residents ranked as follows: CVD and DM, diseases of digestive system, disorders of skeletal and joints system and respiratory system diseases; ② Most residents took state medicine, while only small proportion(3 7%) of residents bought medical insurance; ③ Most people preferred to go to large and Class3 hospitals rather than to community health care station when they were ill. The reasons were that they could not apply for reimbursement if seeing doctors in community health care station (67%) and were unaware of the existence of community health care station (17 4%);④The big barriers preventing residents who were ill from seeing doctors in time was attributed to the inconvenience of health care service. Conclusion Chronic diseases were the major health problem among Anzhen community. The existing large hospital based health care system could not meet demands of the residents. The existing medical care system was the main cause that lowers the efficacy and restrains the development of community health system. So, it is necessary for us to seek a better mechanism to provide more effective, accessible basic community care to residents.
